McComas Funeral Home Interments, 1901-1941, Harford County, Maryland

$22.00

McComas Funeral Home is the oldest mortuary in Harford County, Maryland. Family tradition states it was founded by John Calvin McComas in 1808. While this statement has been published as fact in C. Milton Wright’s Our Harford Heritage and in the Harford County Directory in 1953, subsequent research indicates that this was not quite the case; however, it is known that the McComas family has been engaged in the trades of cabinetmaking, coffinmaking, and undertaking for more than 200 years.

McComas Funeral Home Interments, 1901–1941, contains the name of the deceased, whether the woman was married or single, whether an infant was stillborn and/or premature, the age of the deceased, the date of interment, place and/or cemetery of interment, whether interred locally or shipped to other places outside of Harford County, and the source for that information, that is, the death certificate number and/or the date of the newspaper obituary. It names 1,470 people who have been arranged alphabetically, thus precluding the need for a separate index. In addition to offering a useful research tool for historians and genealogists, this work recognizes the McComas Funeral Home’s dedicated service to Harford County citizens for more than 200 years.
