John William Hines, Born c. 1600 in Londonderry, IrelandHis Descendants Principally of NC and VA, and Their Associated Families, Revised Edition - William Neal Hurley, Jr. . This comprehensive genealogy is a study of the descendants of the three sons of John William Hines: William Hines Sr. (born 1628), John William Hines Jr. (born 1630), and Zachariah Hines (born 1635) who immigrated to America together in October of 1650 aboard the English sloop Anne Bolyn and settled in or near Chuckatuck, Virginia, and later throughout North Carolina as well as further south and west. William Hines Sr. had three children; his line is carried through his son William Hines Jr. (born 1651) and his grandson John William Hines (born 1676). John William Hines Jr. is believed to have had children but no proof has yet been found; it is supposed that he had a grandson, William Hines Sr. (born c. 1690), and a chapter is devoted to his descendants. It is believed that Zachariah Hines returned to England and apparently had no sons, or they had predeceased him, therefore his genealogy is not expounded on in this volume. Following a chapter devoted to early immigration records and other data, this study, which includes male-lines and female-lines wherever possible, is presented in the form of fifteen chapters that each take as their focus one person important to the Hines lineage and that person’s descendants. This provides a good look at many different branches of the Hines family tree. There are also chapters on “North Carolina Families Associated with Hines,” “Miscellaneous Hines Family Members” and “Hines Families of Alabama,” in addition to an appendix that features pertinent military records and a listing of “random pieces of information about Hines family members.” The everyname index of more than 8,000 individuals is a helpful researching tool. Since the original publication of this book in 1992, the author has continued to research the Hines family in Virginia and North Carolina records and has received massive amounts of new information from other researchers extending the family tree into Georgia, Ohio, Indiana, and other states not previously reported. That new information as well as a few corrections to some of the original work is the basis of this revised edition. (1992, 1995), 2015, 5˝x8˝, paper, 544 pp.
