The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume 61, 1907 - New England Historic Genealogical Society. This quarterly journal, commonly called simply “The Register,” is certainly the oldest, and arguably the best, genealogical periodical published in the United States. Within its volumes researchers will find some of the most valuable genealogical compilations and source record transcriptions to be found anywhere. It is difficult, one might even say foolhardy, to attempt to do research on New England families without reference to this important series.
However, copies of the original editions of these volumes are becoming increasingly difficult to find, so Heritage Books has reprinted the early volumes of this important serial in order to make them more accessible to the rank and file genealogist. Each volume has an index, and in addition, a comprehensive index to the first fifty volumes is also available. In the description below it is only possible to touch on some of the main articles—each volume also contains much additional material. Genealogies: Edward Collins; John Collins; Rev. John Wilson; John Burbank; Matthew Bellamy; Hugh Jones; Thomas Willett; John Evarts; Nathaniel Coney; John Bailey; Alexander Kirkwood; Henry Curtis; Thomas Tarbell; Peter Crary; and Alling Ball. Family Histories: Bullock; Lawrence; Sherman; Diggens/Dickens; Browne; Torsey; Frost; Lee; Hale; and Sherburne. Memoirs: William Blake Trask; William Tracy Eustice; Rev. George Moulton Adams; Rev. Edmund Farwell Slafter; and William Claflin. Genealoical Records: inscriptions at Sudbury. MA; Hartland, CT, church records; records of the 2nd Church of Scituate, Norwell, MA; inscriptions from the Old Burying Ground, Lyme, CT; church records of Eastbury, CT; list of emigrant Liverymen of London, 1641; passenger lists to America; marriages solemnized by Rev. Jeremiah Barnard, Amherst, NH, 1780-1829; Shaker records of Harvard, MA; a Revolutionary order; and much more. (1907, 1999), 2016, 5˝x8˝, paper, indices, 550 pp. 101-N1212 ISBN: 0788412124
