The Plantagenet Roll of the Blood Royal: The Isabel of Essex Volume - The Marquis of Ruvigny and Ranieval. The descendants of King Edward IV, and of his brother and sister, George, Duke of Clarence, and Anne, Duchess of Exeter, the three children of Richard, 3rd Duke of York, having been given in the preceding volumes, the present volume treats of those of his sister Isabel, Countess of Essex and Eu. The plan followed is identical with that adopted in the Clarence and Exeter volumes. The lines from the Countess Isabel are traced out in a series of tables until about the middle of last century; then in the body of the book the descendants of the various persons last named in the tables are set out in the order of primogeniture. The Lady Isabel Plantagenet, whose descendants are here set out, was the only daughter of that Richard, Earl of Cambridge, who was beheaded at Southampton, 5 August 1415. It is in right of her maternal descent that her descendants here appear, her mother having been the Lady Anne Mortimer, sister and sole heir of Edmund, 5th Earl of March, K.B., who was declared heir to the throne, and elder daughter of Roger, 4th Earl of March, by his wife, the Lady Philippa, daughter and sole heir of Lionel (of Antwerp), Duke of Clarence, the eldest of the four sons of King Edward III, of whom issue now survives. “The Essex volume completes the Roll of the descendants of that union between the Houses of Mortimer and York which led to the wars of the Roses, and the four volumes now published contain the names of over 40,000 living persons descended from it, while over 164,656 lines of descent have been traced.” It contains the names of some 600 further descendants of King Henry, of some 1,100 of those of Duke George, and of 1,500 of those of their sister. The supplement and the text each contain full-name indices. (1908, 2001), 2016, 5½x8½, paper, indices, 700 pp . 101-R1821 ISBN: 0788418211
