The Researcherís Guide to American Genealogy - Val D. Greenwood. The best book ever written on American genealogy, it is the text of choice in colleges and universities or wherever courses in American genealogy are taught, and it has been adopted by the National Genealogical Society as its basic text in its famous home study courses. This classic work teaches the researcher the timeless principles of genealogical research, it identifies the various classes of records used, groups them in tables and charts, gives their locations, explains their uses, and evaluates them for use in the research process. Since this book was first published nearly two decades ago, there have been some significant advances in genealogy--not in the classic approach to research problems (which remain valid), but in the new methods and materials used in solving them. There also have been some fundamental changes in legislation, record-keeping practices, in custodianship, and so forth--so that the need for an updated edition of this classic is obvious. This completely revised and enlarged edition is a carefully constructed exposition of the principles and facts essential for successful genealogical research, yet it is also a guidebook and field manual, a comprehensive reference book and a textbook. No research is complete without it. (2000), 2005, 6x9, paper, index, illus., 676 pp.
