Jackson County is located in the northeastern portion of the state and the county seat is Newport. Jackson County is Arkansas' 23rd county, formed on November 5, 1829 and named for Andrew Jackson, the seventh President of the United States, who was president by the time Arkansas was admitted to the union. The historical portion begin at the start of the county and continue up to the time of the original publication in the mid-1880s. The biographical portions were submitted by the families themselves.
