This volume includes an account of prewar social, political and economic conditions in the Big Sandy Valley of Eastern Kentucky, a description of battles, actions and skirmishes during the war, and an examination of the postwar effects of the war. The list of soldiers includes 3,700 Union and Confederate soldiers from the Big Sandy Valley counties, and a list of 150 soldiers who fought on both sides. Soldiers' records include, where available, regiment, rank, date of enlistment and muster out, age, eye and hair color, skin complexion, wounds, and POW status.
