The author abstracted all of the data found in the records of the Board of Overseers of the Poor, an organization which supplanted the Anglican Church's duties following the disestablishment of the church. These records are especially important because of the paucity of records currently published on Washington County. Surviving deed and will books tend not to contain mention of less affluent citizens of the county.
