Wythe County represented an important subdivision of Montgomery County in 1790; from Wythe County five additional counties and a portion of three others were to be carved by 1858. The 2,425 marriages in this volume consist of both ministers' returns and surety bonds. They are transcribed from records on file in the Virginia State Library, Archives Division. Accompanying data includes minister's name, bondsman, and occasionally parents' names.
