CD: Annals of Brookfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut - Emily C. Hawley. "The purpose of local history is to preserve an authentic record of the persons, events and enterprises connected with the locality of which it is a history." Emily Hawley presents a "history of the town covering the years in which this place was the Parish of Newbury, and the years since the town was incorporated in 1788, a period of about two centuries." The territory comprised in this town was given by New Milford, Danbury and Newtown while the land lay in two counties, Fairfield and Litchfield, which renders the local history somewhat complicated. The land deeds of the early settlers are recorded in one the three towns and their church affiliations were with the early churches in those towns until the first Ecclesiastical Society was organized in 1757. This book includes the local Indian history, the history of the churches, industries, societies, schools and professions, Brookfield's involvement in various wars, and Brookfield's physical features. This book also contains biographical sketches and genealogical records of early families who resided in Brookfield.
