CD: History of Taunton, Massachusetts, From Its Settlement to the Present Time - Samuel Hopkins Emery. A worthy tome on this early Massachusetts town; all such histories should be so thorough! About two hundred pages describe the early settlement of Taunton and its subsequent divisions that created Norton and Dighton, among other towns. Other chapters cover the ministry, schools and teachers, medicine, military activities from the 1600s through the Civil War (including many rosters of soldiers), lawyers, town officials, Freemasons and other organizations, and industry. Biographical sketches, often with much genealogical information, comprise nearly one hundred pages. Transcriptions of many original documents are also included and footnotes are extensive. A supplement published one year after the original release of the book gave additional information and is included in this edition. A new surname index gives access to the thousands of people mentioned in the text. The book is presented as graphic images, so the user sees the work just as it was originally published. It is intended to look and function very much like a "real" book. There is no electronic index, and there is no electronic text to search. However, numerous electronic bookmarks (like those seen at the left) have been added which make it easy to move through the book. Image numbers will match the page numbers for all of the main text, as well as the index. (1893, 1894), 2004, CD, Graphic Images, Abode Acrobat, v6, PC and Mac, 994 pp. 101-CD2411 ISBN: 0788424114
