Liberty County. Texas Marriage Records Book A- B 1875-1899
Frances T. Ingmire
Liberty County, Texas was one of the original municipalities of Texas, created in 1831. This was at an early period called ARKOKISA, one of the names of the Trinity River, probably a corruption of ORQUISACO, the name of an Indian tribe on its banks. At a later period it was called ATASCOSITA, because the Atascosita road crossed the river there. This volume of the marriage records seem to be the earliest available and it consists of two alphabetical listings, one for the brides the other for the grooms. Each of these two listings contains the names of the bride and groom as well as the date of the marriage.
