Independence County, Arkansas History and Biographical Sketches
Independence County, located in the north eastern portion of the state, was the ninth county formed in the state on 20 October 1820 and was named in honor of the Declaration of Independence. The historical portion of this material begins at the creation of the county and continues up to the time of the original publication in the mid-1880s. The family sketches were submitted by the families themselves, therefore, they are more accurate than other sources.
“William P. Dobson, a practicing physician and surgeon, of Union Township, Independence County, resides on a farm four miles north of Cushman post office. He was born in Surrey County, N.C., in 1846, and is one of two children born to John H. and Elizabeth Dobson, both natives of North Carolina. ...etc...”
