Created in 1846, Newton County was taken from Jasper County lands. This volume represents the first selection of marriages for the county. The volume is composed of two alphabetical listings of names. The first listing is by the surname of the groom with the names of the brides and date of marriages. The second listing is by the surname of the brides with the names of the grooms and the date of the marriage.
