Abbeville County was a very important area of migration of early settlers and pioneers heading West. Probate records are a wonderful set of records when they are available because they mention such things as: proving wills, administrations & divisions of estates, estate sales, guardians appointed and mentions of marriages. These probate records cover the years 1840s-1870s. This book should be considered a companion book to Pauline Young’s book Abstracts of (Old) Ninety-Six and Abbeville District, South Carolina Wills and Bonds.
