Frances T. Ingmire
yler County, Texas was created in 1846 from Liberty County. It is located in southeastern Texas on the Naches River. The first settlers in the area were the Caddo (or Tejas) Indians. The first wave of migration from the east were the Cherokee under Chief Bowles who secured a land grant from Mexico. It was from Chief Bowles that Sam Huston negotiated a treaty for the infant Republic of Texas. The county was named for President John Tyler for his support in the annexation of Texas into the Union in 1845.
These marriage records are probably the first recorded for the new county. These records are listed chronological by date of the marriage. With the date is given the names of the bride and groom.
