Henry C. Peden, Jr.
Cecil County was created in 1674 from Baltimore County and Kent County; however, land patents and certificates date from 1649 in the area that now comprises Cecil County. The lists in this volume were gathered from material in the Maryland State Archives, Maryland Historical Society, Maryland State Papers, and parish registers. This material includes land patents, colonial naturalizations, petitioners, St. Mary Ann’s Parish religious oaths, cohabitants, bachelors, sundry persons, St. Stephen’s Parish pew holders, tax lists, militia list of 1740, fines, tavern licenses granted, court justice papers, insolvents, overseers of roads, constables, civil and military officers of 1696, bondholders, assemblymen, and alienated lands list. A comprehensive index of names is included.
