DeSoto Parish, Louisiana History and Biographies

$20.00

DeSoto Parish, located in the northwestern side of the state, was established in 1843 out of lands from Natchitoches and Caddo Parish. It was named for Marcel DeSoto who led the first group of European settlers to the area settling on the Bayou Pierre. Many people think this Parish was named for Hernando de Soto, the Spaniard who explored the southeastern United States. In this volume, you will find a brief history of the Parish and then a collection of biographical sketches of persons living there in the late 1890s. Since most of the persons mentioned gave the data to the writer of the material originally, we can assume they knew their family and background.
