Township Tidings, from Potter County, Pennsylvania, Volume 1, 1880-1884 - Maureen M. Lee. The Township Tidings series, totaling four volumes, was created to accompany the four Potter County, Pennsylvania Potpourri books. Due to the vast amount of material available in The Potter Enterprise, the leading newspaper of the county in the late 1800s, this series has been broken into five-year increments; 1880-1884, 1885-1889, 1890-1894 and 1895-1899. While the Potpourri series covers the news stories in depth—births, marriages and divorces, deaths, court minutes, disasters such as fires and floods, crimes, politics, industry and growth, etc.—the Tidings series is more intimate and neighborly; who’s moving in and who’s moving out, who is building, local business, those taken ill, who’s visiting, church activities, the harvest and the weather, etc. Realizing that not everyone’s ancestor was a murderer, bound over to court or elected to public office (some might say the latter two are one in the same!), the author decided to put forth the Tidings manuscripts in an effort to further assist those researching in Potter County. 2007, 5½x8½, paper, index, 304 pp.
