The Hiwassee Land District is that portion of Tennessee south of the Tennessee River and north of the Hiwassee River in the present counties of Blount, Loudon, Monroe, McMinn, Meigs and a portion of Roane south of the river. These lands were freed up for white settlement following the treaty of 27 February 1819 with the Cherokee. Some of the Cherokee were granted tracts of land in this territory by the treaty and these lands are covered in another book, i.e. Robert Armstrong’s Plat Book of those Indians given Reservations after the 1817 Treaty.
