Johnson County is located in the upper east Tennessee area next to the State of North Carolina. It was established in 1836 out of land that was originally part of the Watauga Settlements from 1784 to 1788, which the State of Franklin claimed under the name of Wayne County. All of the above lands were originally part of the Washington District of North Carolina, which was organized by North Carolina in 1777. When this will and letters volume was started, this area was part of Carter County in Tennessee and later became Johnson County in 1836.
