James Ellis, an established Daughters of the American Revolution ancestor who served with the New York Militia, was born on May 8, 1758. He was married around 1780 to Sarah Riggs, daughter of Edward and Jane (Buckley) Riggs. They had seven children, six of whom are covered in individual sections in this major new work. Those children are William Ellis (born 1782), Jesse Ellis (born 1784), Mahulda Ellis (married John Nees(e)), Elizabeth Ellis (married Joshua Massey), Mary (Polly) Ellis (married James Curry), and James Ellis Jr. (born 1799). Where possible, the lines are carried in to the 1990s.
