Montgomery County, Virginia Will Book I: 1786-1809


Montgomery County, located in southwestern Virginia is one of those key areas with the migration pattern going west went through this county. This first will book is very important as many of those traveling through left some indication of their passing here as buyers in estates, etc. This abstraction of the wills, inventories, sales and bonds give all the names included and some of the details of the actions taken.

George Brown, Thomas Watterson and Clayburn Akers are bound to William H. Cabell, Governor of Virginia in the sum of $500 to secure appointment of George Brown as constable of Montgomery County on April 9, 1807.
