Grainger County, Tennessee Loose Wills 1793-1834

Grainger County was the second county created by the first State Legislature on April 22, 1796. It was named in honor of Mrs. William Blount whose maiden name was Mary Grainger. As the name implies, these are wills recorded, but loose and not bound in a volume in the court house. This means that at least this many are probably missing from the records. The arrangement is alphabetical and chronological as they should be. Most of the dates seem to run the early part of the nineteenth century.
Example from this volume:
“...[from the will of Edward McGinnis - 3rd I give and bequeath to my dauther Anny McGinnis all the household furniture except the articles here after given to my son Absolum[,] also one cow and heffer and one loom I give and bequeath to said daughter Anny and all the above bequeathed property. My wife Nancy McCinnis is to have a joint interest in with said daughter Anny untill the death of said Nancy then the interest of said property is to be inturly invested in said daughter Anny.”
