Colonial Delaware Assemblymen, 1682-1776

$21.00

From the Preface: The bulk of the work consists of a biographical directory of colonial Delaware Assemblymen. The author, Bruce Bendler, presents in compact form the vital statistics for each representative and information concerning his place of birth and residence, his relationships to other people (including especially his connection to other assemblymen), his religion, and his wealth as far as these data can be discovered. The sources used are also noted. A valuable introduction briefly recounts the history of representative government in colonial Delaware, summarizes information regarding the characteristics of the assemblymen, and discusses the nature of the assembly, including such details as organizational structure and continuity of service. As an appendix, the author gives the most nearly complete list extant of the membership of the successive assemblies, with identification of the speakers, who are also listed in the introduction.
