Scottish Seafarers, 1800-1830

$6.00

Among the most important sources of information used by researchers are the various Registers of the Testaments of the 22 Commissary Courts. During the 1820s, under the Commissary Courts Act of 1823, this function was transferred to the Sheriff Courts with effect from 1824, with the exception of Edinburgh which had a Commissary Court until 1830. This booklet lists all those mariners for whom an inventory or the confirmation of a testament has been recorded with either a Commissary Court or with a Sheriff Court and is now held by the Scottish Record Office.
