Following on the work of Volume 1, this book presents information from an additional 250 parishes grouped by county. The counties covered in this volume are: Aberdeenshire, Argyleshire, Banffshire, Buteshire, Caithness-Shire, Clackmannanshire, Dumbartonshire, Elginshire, Fifeshire, Forfarshire, Inverness-Shire, Kincardineshire, Kinross-shire, Nairnshire, Orkney, Perthshire, Ross and Cromarty, Stirlingshire and Sutherlandshire. The appendix contains additional material from the following counties covered in Volume 1: Dumfriesshire, Edinburghshire, Fifeshire, Kincardineshire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Lanarkshire, Roxburghshire and Wigtonshire. For each parish there typically appear some quoted tombstone inscriptions (in some cases as early as 13th c.), plus some description of the cemetery and sometimes some history of it or connected with it. Some odd facts are brought to light, such as that in one particular parish "the peasantry obtain their winter fuel by storing up portions of decayed coffins from the churchyard." Sources are cited at the bottom of pages on which they appear, and for greater ease of reference an everyname index is appended to each volume. The frontispiece is an engraving of Sir William Wallace's monument on Abbey Craig in Stirling.
