This book contains a three hundred year history of the England family in America - from 1700 to 2000. With their beginning in the tidewater region to the piedmont to the mountains of Virginia, to the blue grasses and cliffs of Kentucky, to the fertile soil of Missouri and the big cities and suburbs of Illinois, this 692-page work tells the story of the common man through seven generations. Included also are the Webber family of Virginia and the story of their part in the Primitive Baptist movement which sprung up in the Pre-Revolutionary Colonial period. The Scots-Irish families of Campbell and Allison entered their lives as they forged ahead in the Kentucky wilderness. Their story, too, brings action to this narrative.
Twenty-eight years of research were devoted to obtaining vital statistics, petitions, war records, photographs, deeds, bonds, wills, estate settlements, and numerous other sources used to compile this history. On-site research in Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri proved valuable in delving into records in courthouses, libraries, museums, historical societies, and cemeteries. The book contains copies of over 250 manuscripts and photographs. Over 900 published books, over 100 periodicals, and over 200 documents were used in the research.
This is the fourth genealogical/historical book produced by the author: The Bantas of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Their Ancestors and Descendants, 1985; Bunnell and Allied Families, 1990; and Palatine in 1929, a Biographical Directory of Residents, 1995, published by the Palatine Historical Society, that won a "Certificate of Excellence" in the Scholarly Publications category from the Illinois State Historical Society in 1996. The author was a contributing writer of Kane County Illinois Early Families 1833-1885, 1991, published by the Elgin Genealogical Society. Her magazine article: "Writing My Family History" was published in the Sep-Oct 1992 issue of Everton's Genealogical Helper. She has written numerous local history articles for the Palatine Historical Society Newsletter and Palatine Park District Catalog. Additional published materials include newsletter editing (non-historical) and church newspaper articles.
