Montgomery Circuit [Maryland] Records, 1788-1988

This book contains the records of Methodist Episcopal, Methodist Episcopal South, and United Methodist Churches in Montgomery and Frederick Counties, Maryland. The churches are located in Upper Montgomery County and the Urbana District of Frederick County. Records of marriages, deaths, baptisms, church membership, classes and preparatory classes span 200 years and have been transcribed from the ledgers of the Montgomery Circuit housed in Clarksburg, Forest Grove, and Bethesda U. M. C. The ledgers contain information from the following Methodist Episcopal, Methodist Episcopal South, and United Methodist Churches: Bethesda [Browningsville], Cedar Grove [Salem], Clarksburg M. E., Clarksburg M. E. South, Clarksburg U. M. C., Comus M. E. South, Mountain Chapel M. E. [Sugarloaf Chapel, Comus], Mt. Pleasant M. E. South, Dickerson U. M. C., Forest Grove M. E. South, Bennett Chapel, Poolesville M. E., Poolesville M. E. South, Hyattstown M. E., Hyattstown M. E. South, Flint Hill M. E. South, Oak Hill Class, Germantown Methodist, Pleasant Plains Class [Mountain View, Purdum], Mt. Lebanon Class and Darnestown M. E. Church. Remarks by pastors are particularly revealing concerning their considerable duties in so large a religious community and how the congregation dealt with spiritual matters and more worldly issues in the nineteenth century. An index of full names is included.
