CD: Diaries of the Rev. Timothy Walker - Joseph B. Walker. Rev. Timothy Walker was born in 1705 in Massachusetts, graduated from Harvard College in 1725, and settled in Pennycook (now Concord), New Hampshire, in 1730. For the next fifty-two years he would minister to the people of the town. He was possessed of “good mental abilities, a good education, strong common sense, and marked wisdom” and he served the people as both spiritual advisor and temporal counselor. In the latter capacity, for instance, he made three trips to England over the course of thirteen years to obtain redress for the town’s residents in their fight against the claims of a company that had “little existence but upon paper” and sought to wrest the town from them; he was successful in pressing his claims. Rev. Walker kept diaries for a large portion of his life. All of the extant diaries are included in this book. Three of them have been preserved in their entirety while six are fragmented. Entries cover some or all of the following years: 1746-1750, 1757, 1764-1766, and 1780. This collection affords “vivid pictures of New Hampshire life on the Indian frontier while the question of English or French supremacy on this continent was being decided and while the inestimable privileges of American independence were being achieved.” Joseph B. Walker’s annotations add greatly to the identification of people, places, and events mentioned in the diaries. Original full name and subject index. The book is presented as graphic images, so the user sees the work just as it was originally published. It is intended to look and function very much like a “real” book. There is no electronic index, and there is no electronic text to search. However, numerous electronic bookmarks have been added which make it easy to move through the book.
