CD: Litchfield County Choral Union, 1900-1912, Founded to Honor the Memory of Robbins Battell, Volume 1 - J. H. Vaill. "Robbins Battell was a man of wide generosity, and during his lifetime gave unsparingly to many worth objects-never, however, with ostentation, or that he might win the applause of men. It was his highest desire that his means should be expended toward uplifting those about him in the appreciation of refined art in it various forms. It cannot have been forgotten by the community of Norfolk and surrounding towns how during the decade of the eighties he provided, summer after summer, charming open-air concerts, free to all who cared to hear them…The musical selections of the open-air concerts were not left to the questionable fancy of the conductor; they must be of a high order of merit as musical compositions, otherwise he insisted that they be changed, as he did not wish the music to appeal simply to the fancy or the feet." This volume gives the history of the choral union as well as the schedule of programs from 1900-1912.
