Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan, 1870-1909 - Raymond C. Lantz. Contains three transcriptions of censuses taken by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to determine the eligibility of people of Indian descent for monies appropriated by Congress. The first chapter contains the 1870 census and annuity payment records of the Grand River, Mackinac, Sault Ste. Marie and Traverse Bands of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan. These records name the head of the household, and give a count of the other members and information on their annuity. The second chapter is of greater genealogical interest because it is a listing of those persons in the 1870 enumeration, and all their known descendants, as found living on a special enumeration made on 4 March 1907. This listing gives the name and age of each person in the household with various supplemental information. The third chapter contains a listing of children born after 4 March 1907, and before 1 August 1909. These records give name, date of birth, parents and some other data. A major resource for people descended from these Ottawa and Chippewa Indians! (1991), 2006, 5½x8½, paper, index, 288 pp.
