Edgefield County, South Carolina: Deed Books 30 and 31
Edgefield County, South Carolina: Deed Books 30 and 31 - Carol Wells. Deed books contain not only land conveyances, but also powers of attorney, depositions, judicial sales, and sales of household and farm equipment, livestock and slaves. These transactions often name wives, children, parents, assorted kinfolk, previous owners, witnesses, justices and others. These deeds were recorded between December 1809 and July 1814, a time of great dispute in South Carolina over the issue of a high or low tariff. Property locations are identified by names of nearby watercourses and by names of adjoining landowners. Every name and all watercourses are indexed. Names and ages of slaves may be stated; approximate age of minors and occupations may also be provided.
