This book contains four years of Personal Property Tax Lists from Shenandoah County, Virginia and present-day Page County, Virginia. The lists that are transcribed in this book are from the years 1782 through 1785. Personal Property Tax Lists are often an under-utilized tool that many genealogical researchers of a multitude of skill levels neglect to review when solving mid-18th and 19th century genealogical problems. This series uses original and derivative sources, such as tax records and court records from the 1700s and 1800s.
The author of this work has patiently and tediously written transcriptions of the type of records that aid genealogical researchers, whether they are just a beginner, or even all the way up to the professional level in their research skills. Using these transcriptions, we can get a better glimpse into the lives of our relatives of the distant past and find out who they were, what they did and find excellent clues about the lineage of our ancestors. The 1783 list contains names and co-residents of many of the enslaved people in the county. A full-name index adds to the value of this work.
