The book explores many facets of statehood, from the drawing of boundary lines for Wisconsin to the original territorial developments that would shape Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana as we know them today. The information found from early newspapers, school and church records, as well as government activities is blended in a unique way with the biographical sketches of over 150 significant figures in Wisconsin history. The sketches are full of information and include, in almost every case, the maiden names of the wives of these prominent men. Very often, parents’ full names are given, as well as names of children and names of second/third wives. Many dates are given throughout the work. The political and governmental activity of these men is discussed, as well as their education, whereabouts, the dates of their deaths, births, marriages, etc. This work presents complete pictures of these men, and is entertaining to read. The rejected and ratified constitutions for the state of Wisconsin, as rejected and adapted by the conventions at Madison on December 16, 1846 and April 6, 1847, respectively, are included in the book.
