This book contains diaries from two major activities in his twenties: Part One; which are his diaries from the time he began studying at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1948 covering his extensive travels through Europe during his student years, and culminating with a journey into the Balkans in 1951 and Part Two; which are his diaries from his participation in World War II between his landing in Normandy France in September 1944 through the end of the war in May 1945.
