This work contains a few civil lists but is primarily a collection of vital statistics. The records begin about the dates shown, and end about 1878 unless indicated otherwise below.

• Southbury: births 1770, marriages 1770, deaths 1770.
• South Britain: marriages, 1769-1804; deaths, 1769-1804.
• Bethlehem: births 1840, marriages 1740, deaths 1741.
• Roxbury: births 1852, marriages 1746, deaths 1744.
• Stratford: births 1640, marriages 1680, deaths 1670.

For the most part the records are chronologically arranged, but some sections are alphabetical. "As this work is to be used, principally, as one of reference, a list of the public officials of the town, members of Congress, judges, senators, county commissioners, town clerks, a list of governors of the State, a list of sovereigns of England, who ruled while we were governed as a colony of that power, and other items, have been inserted." The research value of this work is greatly enhanced by the addition of a new 161-page index compiled by Catherine Machan Martin.
