CD: The First Explorations of the Trans-Allegheny Region by the Virginians, 1650-1674

$15.95

In this volume Mr. Alvord and Mr. Bidgood bring previously unwritten history to light and correct "a great injustice" done to the Virginians who discovered and explored the Trans-Allegheny region. Both England and France, almost at the same moment, set up their claims to the immense interior valley setting up a struggle for its mastery which lasted almost a century and ultimately resulted in the French and Indian War. Much has been written about the French explorers Frontenac, Joliet, Marquette and La Salle, but little has been written until now about the English explorers Lederer, Batts, Fallam, Needham and Arthur. This volume seeks to correct that omission and includes a bibliography so that other historians can confirm the English explorers' place in history. Several maps track the progress of the different expeditions and a subject, place and fullname index provides easy access to information.
