CD: A History of the Town of New London, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, 1779-1899

$29.95

First, Rev. George W. Gardner, and then Mr. Edward O. Lord researched the history of New London in order to bring this volume to publication. After Rev. Gardner's death, Mr. Lord gathered historical material, copied family records, made "voluminous notes relating to earlier residents of the town as they were recalled by those with whom he conversed," borrowed valuable books and documents and searched burial grounds for inscriptions and dates in order to complete the genealogical portions of this volume. The volume is divided into six periods: Chapters One and Two encompass the pioneer settlers and the town's incorporation; Chapters Three and Four cover 1779-1800; Chapters Five and Six include 1801- 1825; Chapters Seven and Eight cover 1826-1850; Chapters Nine and Ten include 1851-1875 and Chapters Eleven and Twelve cover 1876-1898. Finally one chapter covers the Centennial History of the Baptist Church. A genealogical index was included as well as "a special map of the town showing the chief topographical features and including a complete list of present residences and public buildings…for convenience of reference." Numerous illustrations of the citizens and the town accompany the text. The publication of this volume coincided with the one hundred and twentieth anniversary of the town's incorporation.
