From the Time it was First Chartered in 1781 to the year 1860; Together with biographical sketches of its most noted deceased citizens
Over half of this work is dedicated to a description of many aspects of the history of Montpelier, tracing the political and social development of the town. Listings of residents who held office, deaths and births through 1800, merchants, and professional men are included. Just over one-third of the book is dedicated to a series of twenty-seven biographical sketches of prominent citizens. These generally present a glowing description of the character of the subject, his or her accomplishments, offices held, and family notes.
