Westchester County is an original shire; it was formed in 1683 although it was settled much earlier. Hence, the county and its families have a long and illustrious history. The first settlers were primarily Dutch, English, and French Huguenots; Irish, Scottish, and German Palatine immigrants followed. The family articles are arranged in alphabetical order. Each article gives a concise summary of the essential genealogical data on one family with dates and places of birth, marriage, and death, names of parents, spouses, and children, occupations and places of residence to the fullest extent possible. Relationships are clearly stated so that the reader can move from article to article in constructing a lineage, ancestry, or genealogy that will frequently span several generations and several different surnames. Isolated lineages and individuals who have not been connected are also included.
