Settlers of Colonial Calvert County, Maryland

$32.00

Realizing the difficulty of researching early families in Calvert County because of the loss of county records, Mrs. Jourdan has compiled a major index to the records, primarily the land patents and probate records. Section One is devoted to land patents, naming the tract, and giving the acreage, location by hundred and date in which the patent issued, surveyed or some other early date. Section Two is a re-arrangement of Section One by tract name. Section Three is much more than an index. Here is extracted pertinent information, probate records (wills, inventories, administration accounts, balance books), references found in the Maryland Archives series, chancery court records and depositions. Also listed is the decedent, type of probate record, date, and pertinent names such as children, spouse, so-called next of kin, and other names likely to be of use in genealogical research. Also included are Christ Church Parish records (births, marriages and deaths) and marriages from the Scharf Collection, Maryland Historical Society. This book should be treated as the starting point in researching early Calvert County families, directing the researcher to the sources the author lists.
