Biography and History of the Indians of North America, From Its First Discovery to the Present Time

$57.00

Written by Samuel G. Drake, one of the founders of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and owner of the first antiquarian bookstore established in this country, this book was an early attempt to provide a comprehensive history of the aboriginal peoples in North America. Information was culled from numerous early sources, and many rare engravings of famous Indian sachems accompany the text. Included in this edition is a four-page table listing alphabetically the names of all tribes then known along with their locations and approximate size. A former editor of the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, the author relates the lives of a great many Indian leaders in a clear and concise manner. He concentrates on supplying many facts and avoiding the excessive use of verbiage which characterizes much of the work from his time. Truly a collector's item, anybody with even a passing interest in the early inhabitants of North America will enjoy reading this book and should include it in their library.
