James Dowd found and carefully retyped Frances Howe's original text, adding an introduction, appendix, footnotes, index and a new genealogy. the first chapter is dedicated to the author's grandmother, Marie Lefevre, who was born in 173 in the French settlement known as Riviere des Raisins, on the site of present-day Monroe, Michigan. The second chapter tells the story of the author's grandfather, Joseph Baiily de Messein (b. 1774). A genealogy section follows the descendants of Gascon Le Fevre to the author.
