Volume 1 Number 1-Volume 3, Number 155

Lambertville is located on the shore of the Delaware River near the southern tip of Hunterdon County, New Jersey, only a few miles northwest of Trenton. The Lambertville Press published its first weekly edition on November 4, 1858, declaring: "We will pay a proper regard to the 'popular will,' yet we will not suffer dictation from any source." Today's news is tomorrow's history. Newspapers are a goldmine of historical and genealogical information, and the author has extracted and compiled a wealth of name-filled articles in this volume. Abstracts are arranged chronologically by publication date, including 4 November-23 December 1858, 6 January-28 December 1859; 4 January-26 December 1860 and 2 January-30 October 1861. Publications for 15 February 1860 and 7 November 1860 are missing. Abstracts and transcriptions of articles and advertisements from these issues include marriage and death notices, election results, court cases, news items from local communities, and military updates, with reports on the beginning of the Civil War. Surnames appear in uppercase and an index of full-names is provided to aid in information retrieval.
