This revised edition offers a foreword by Douglas I. Hodgkin of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and a new prologue from the authors. A new index of places and subjects has been added, following the existing fullname index. This work consists of two main parts: the first part is a reprint of a narrative history of Lewiston which was written by Janus G. Elder and first published in 1882; the second part is a family register based on data collected by Elder, but never before published. Mr. and Mrs. Young have done a prodigious amount of work to prepare Elder's collection for publication in this volume, including verification or correction of facts.
