The Mexican War and Its Warriors

Comprising a Complete History of all the Operations of the American Armies in Mexico, with Biographical Sketches and Anecdotes of the Most Distinguished Officers in the Regular Army and Volunteer Force

This war resulted in the U.S. acquisition of a vast area including California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. This history was written shortly after the conclusion of the war and includes extracts from contemporary correspondence, and eye-witness reports. About 2/3rds of the volume covers the war, and the balance consists of biographies of some of the principals.
