Some History of Van Zandt County Texas

Van Zandt County was first settled by the Indians of east Texas as were most of the area in that part of the state. During the various time periods from then until today, much has happened to give a very full and rich story. The county was named for Isaac Van Zandt who migrated to this area of the country in 1839 and worked within the politics of the day to help bring Van Zandt and Texas into the Union of the United States. He was appointed charge d’affairs to Washington D.C. by President Houston. He died while running for Governor of the State in 1847. This volume starts at the beginning of the area and brings one up to the time of the turn of the 20th century. For those looking for their ancestor in the history of the county, this is the place to look.
