This work relates principally to the Revolutionary period in the western and southwestern half of the state, particularly in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Rowan, Iredell, Lincoln, Gaston, Cleaveland, Burke and Wilkes counties, with some mention of the adjoining sections of South Carolina. Old-timers' recollections of former residents and local traditions combine with extracts from state and county archives for a well-rounded overview of the area. This book contains a considerable amount of genealogy, and the historical narratives are written in a pleasant, neighborly style.
