The Early History of Southampton, Long Island, New York, with Genealogies

$38.00

Southampton, on Long Island in New York, was first settled in mid-1640 by a group from Lynn, Massachusetts. This excellent work provides a history of the early development of the community, with emphasis on the period prior to the American Revolution. Actually the work is about two-fifths history and three-fifths genealogies. The historical section also contains much material of genealogical interest, such as: resident lists for 1649, 1657, 1683, and 1698; identification of early lot owners; some cemetery inscriptions; and a few pages of vital statistics from the town books. The genealogies are alphabetically arranged and provide a wealth of data on hundreds of families. This work is cited in the Harvard Guide to American History. This reprint has been made from the revised and expanded second edition.
